With 21 years’ experience of teaching exercise and 17 years as a Remedial Massage Therapist, I created “Pilates Fusion” which combines Pilates exercises with Osteopathic and Physio exercises. This helps to make exercises more effective and, more importantly, safer to do.

I am qualified with ACSM (the American College of Sports Medicine) who specialise in rehabilitating people to become functional again after, e.g., surgery, amputations, etc. ACSM gather data from around the world and dictate globally how exercises should be done or - more importantly - how they should not be done.

The theory behind Pilates is that most of our common physical problems - back and neck pain, stiffness, loss of range of movement in the joints - are caused by an imbalance and weakness in what we call “the core”. The core is basically your body from your neck down to your thighs - front and back. Pilates aims to strengthen your core and promote free movement in your back and joints. In time, you should see improvements in strength and flexibility and the loosening up of tight muscles. In some participants, it has even led to a reduction in blood pressure and the necessity for pain medication.

There are, however, injuries coming out of Pilates now, usually because of over-zealous instructors manhandling participants into positions that their bodies are just not ready for! In this class, you are encouraged to work within your own ability and to “under-do it” rather than overdo it and to listen to what your body is telling you. Exercises can be tailored to suit the individual and most can be done safely at home.

You do not have to have done Pilates before nor any other form of exercise.

You can either pay-as-you-go at £6 per class or, provided you pay within the first five weeks of any rolling 10 week term, you can pay for a block which works out to £5 per class. And you can drop in and out as suits you.

I ask that you bring an exercise mat with you but, if you don’t have one and want to try us out, you are welcome to borrow one of mine.
